We're thrilled to introduce the Education Workforce Center (EWC) by City Colleges of Chicago, led by Harry S. Truman College, which will include on-site, virtual, and off-site resources for education professionals. The center is now open, serving as the go-to hub for resources and opportunities for current and future early childhood professionals in the city.

The Education Workforce Center is also launching a new job board specifically for Early Childhood Education in Chicago.

About the Education Workforce Center

The EWC, headquartered at Harry S Truman College, City Colleges’ Center of Excellence in Education, offers support for early childhood professionals on campus and at its second location, Richard J Daley College’s satellite campus- Arturo Velasquez Institute, as well as virtual resources and off-site options. This initiative will be a game-changer for current and future early childhood professionals in Chicago. 

Meeting the Needs of Educators Across Chicago

EWC is a one-stop shop providing academic support, mentorship, community, professional development opportunities, access to technology, and socio-emotional support tailored to each stage of the education professional’s trajectory, from community member to student, through employment, and career growth and development.

City-wide survey responses from over 950 ECE professionals found:

73%

of respondents reported a lack of professional resources.

65%

said they would engage more with professional supports if offered in their communities.

62%

expressed a strong interest in mentorship.

46%

indicated that scholarships, professional development, and wellness supports would be most beneficial.

What We Offer

Members of the Education Workforce Center will have access to services that support themthrough all three phases of the educator life cycle.

Professional Development

Free workshops and credential training designed to support ongoing growth in the ECE field.

Loaning Library

Access to classroom tools, books, and professional resources for educators and providers.

Scholarships & Financial Assistance

Support with scholarship access (e.g., CELWS, SEED) and financial aid for international degree translation and transcript evaluation.

Mentorship & Career Guidance

One-on-one support through pilot programs, like our Early Childhood Education mentorship cohort.

Academic Tutoring

Evening and weekend tutoring in writing, math, and ESL to support degree completion.

Technology

Access to technology equipment and training on use and integration to classroom.

Job Placement & Navigation

Career Center connections, job boards, and resume support.

Community Space & Events

Access to shared campus spaces and exclusive professional events across Chicago.

Free Memberships Available for All Education Professionals

The EWC offers free membership to all Education Professionals. Whether you are a student pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education, a new or experienced teacher in the classroom, or a professional in the education field, the EWC welcomes members to share their expertise on the types of support that are needed for retention in the field.
